Mary Cassatt Lilacs in a Window
Mary Cassatt was an American painter. At 15 she began training at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. In 1865, impatient with their restrictive and patronizing policies towards female students, she left to study abroad, settling in Paris. There, Edgar Degas invited her to join the Impressionists. “I accepted with joy, I took leave of conventional art. I began to live", she said.
Known for scenes of mothers and children, Lilacs in a Window is a rare still life. Our delightful apron features her delicate purple and white blossoms.
